Akhil Mathew

“As architecture is dependent on a number of external entities, both simple and complex, I believe the specific nature of each project is what makes the place special.”

For as long as he can remember, Akhil has always had a strong interest in how the built environment effects our way of life and state of being. Architecture was the obvious route in his journey to learn more about these relationships. Akhil obtained his master’s degree from SCI-Arc and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Manchester.

Akhil’s experience includes working in the UK and Japan delivering well-crafted and highly detailed projects. In Japan, his work for Shigeru Ban Architects involved designing detailed timber connections and prototypes while simultaneously producing drawings and images. What he has discovered throughout his studies and travels is that he truly enjoys the specificity of the architectural process for each individual project.

Akhil plays futsal every week for a team he formed with colleagues from SCI-Arc. They have progressed from the lowest division to “Division 1” over the course of four seasons. When he’s not on the field or in the office, Akhil can be found working on 3D printing and prototyping at home.
