Building on Excellence
The Lucy Curci Cancer Center, located on the Eisenhower Medical Center campus in Rancho Mirage, CA, embodies both architectural heritage and innovative healthcare design. Originally designed in the late 1980s by renowned midcentury modernist E. Stewart Williams, the building first served as the Heart Institute of the Desert. In 2004, Eisenhower Medical Center transformed the facility into a unified cancer care center, consolidating oncology services that were previously dispersed across multiple locations.

Our team had the privilege of undertaking both the original Radiation and Medical Oncology expansion projects and a recent expansion completed in November 2023. This latest phase converted an existing open roof deck into approximately 5,830 square feet of medical office space on the second floor, in accordance with the Eisenhower Medical Center Specific Plan Amendment III. These efforts have enabled the Cancer Center to evolve in both capacity and function, enhancing its role as a regional leader in oncology care.

Building upon the legacy of our previous work, we aimed to restore the dignity and original design integrity of the Cancer Center while fulfilling its mission as a comprehensive cancer care facility. Each phase of improvement reflects a thoughtful balance between honoring the building’s historic significance and introducing contemporary elements that promote patient comfort and clinical efficiency. Our expertise in medical and radiation oncology, with a particular focus on radiation oncology, enabled us to create a transformative space that supports the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of patients.
The Lucy Curci Cancer Center is a one-stop destination offering a comprehensive range of services. Eisenhower’s highly trained care teams, including specialists in radiation oncology, hematologic oncology, breast radiology, and various related medical areas, provide unrivaled diagnostic and treatment services. The Center encompasses state-of-the-art resources such as the Arnold Palmer Prostate Center, Eisenhower Schnitzer/Novack Breast Center, Eisenhower Radiation Oncology, Eisenhower Infusion Center, Eisenhower Hematology Oncology Specialists, and Desert Cancer Care.

Eisenhower’s commitment to holistic healing extends beyond medical treatments to encompass the design of the care environment itself. The Cancer Center features carefully integrated lighting, ventilation, natural textures, calming color palettes, and serene landscape views designed to nurture the spirit and promote serenity and hope. Patients and clinicians alike appreciate our relationship-based model of care, which fosters strong connections between providers and patients, ensuring personalized treatment plans for individuals facing some of their most vulnerable moments.
As the Lucy Curci Cancer Center continues to evolve through carefully phased enhancements, we are proud to contribute to a transformative facility that not only raises the standard of cancer care in the Coachella Valley but also honors the building’s storied past.
