A Swing Along The Way consists of three primary components: seesaws, a base, and a bench. When consolidated and at rest, these components form a nodal pavilion at the southwest corner of the Plaza, docked together in the iconic form of the pilgrim shell. When deconstructed and distributed throughout the plaza, each element provides users with the opportunity to activate the space.

The nine seesaws, varying in scale and laminated with festival-oriented information, can be distributed throughout the plaza so children and adults alike have the opportunity to participate in active play. This primary activity, enabled by a singular seesaw, when multiplied by nine, has the opportunity to result in a collective action that energizes the plaza.

The base, also laminated with festival-oriented information, provides a fixed location for each element to nest at the outset of the evening.

The bench, subtly recalling the pilgrimage arrow, provides both a place of repose and a suggested viewpoint of the plaza activity enabled by the seesaws.

Each element is carefully constructed from Garnica wood panels with the composite pavilion utilizing each of the 40 provided sheets. Of course, should delight ensue, more seesaws can be fabricated with the competition template, to be distributed elsewhere and in the future.

The Pilgrim Shell is the universal symbol of the pilgrimage to Santiago.

The pilgrims that travel through plaza Escuelas Trevijano are greeted by the statue of the two pilgrims of La Valvanerada, a local pilgrimage event that shares the square with the French Way or "El Camino de Santiago Francés". Our proposal pulls from the significance of the symbol to generate a dynamic and interactive pavilion that not only fills the plaza but transforms it from a sculptural presence of the Pilgrim Shell to a fun and playful set of seesaws.

The pavilion does not have a set plan or fixed configuration but rather uses that variability and randomness to draw passersby to take a break on their journey and enjoy the square.
