Rooftop Activation in Downtown Los Angeles
The existing site consists of two character-rich, formerly industrial buildings within an emerging urban neighborhood. The property owners hoped to capitalize on their pedestrian-friendly location by converting the underused structures into a multi-tenant, mixed-use complex that exudes the neighborhood’s vitality.

The new design enhances the site’s permeability by programming the lower building’s rooftop with an indoor/outdoor restaurant. Stairways allow pedestrians to flow from the sidewalk onto the building and back down into a courtyard. This courtyard is similarly activated with fast-casual tenants and outdoor seating.

Above all the new commercial activity, live/ work units offer industrial character and contemporary amenities, including a vegetated rooftop with sweeping downtown views.
